In times of crisis, education is often categorized as a non-essential human need when compared to providing food, water, and shelter, which are top priorities for most donors.
Syria is still listed as a crisis zone for the 10th consecutive year. This fact has had a catastrophic impact on Syrian children especially amid the pandemic, and the necessity arising of the great need to allocate all available resources to try and contain the pandemic.
In the beginning of 2021, OCHA mentioned in its report that nearly 7 million child and youth in Syria are facing difficulties in their learning process. They are either at risk of dropping out of schools, require education assistance or they are not receiving any education at all.
Although, there is no detailed statics to break down the numbers of 2021, but during 2020 statistics showed that approximately 2.45 million children have completely dropped out schools, and 1.6 million are at risk of dropping out.
Last year, OSRA was able to provide education to nearly 700 children through schools and literacy centers. We were able to care and educate those children and help them overcome the obstacles that they faced in their education process. We monitored their psychological wellbeing, we have coached many of them to gain a path towards good quality education, and we have also provided them the means to heal from the traumas caused by war and displacement.
Our school in Idlib is considered an example of good quality education in the area that is run by highly professional staff and is offering quality education. It has attracted many parents who want to enlist their children in our school. Our two literacy centers have been achieving satisfactory results, transforming many children who were unable to read and write to become able to join classic schooling systems and commit to classrooms along their peers.
In 2021, we aim at increasing the number of students who we are sponsoring in the school, and we are planning to add two additional new literacy centers.
Currently, the school hosts up to 480 student, and the three literacy centers have capacity to serve up to 500 children.
We hope you help us with this campaign to support 200 Children out of the 1000 that we are targeting with education
We provide all necessary tools for teachers and stationery for children in these centers, in addition to paying salaries for the teachers, and provide heating in the classrooms.
We periodically supervise the teachers through a team of specialists in educational methods to ensure that the highest level of learning is being provided in the best ways possible.
We also provide psychological support to children through various activities and entertainment programs, in order to help the children adapt with their environment and commit to coming to school therefore minimize the number of school dropouts.
Help us provide education to the children who need it the most in Syria.
